Book: Call From a Dead Man

EXCERPT FROM BOOK

LAPD Homicide Detective Lieutenant Jeff Chandler checked his phone for new messages before he went to sleep. He and his robbery detective husband, Mickey Stanton, lived in a beachfront home in Malibu.
The ocean’s tide made for a relaxing change from his and Mickey’s stressful jobs.
The water running in the bathroom sink and the sounds of Mickey preparing for bed… and for sex, made him smile.
He attached the phone to a charger, saw Mickey had already done the same, and then glanced at the dresser. Both of their duty pistols and badges were lying together. As he gazed at the firearms and their silver police ID, he smiled.
He’d met Mickey after he’d transferred to the LAPD from Seattle PD. Not a rookie, no, but young, like Mickey was. They were in their twenties and working the streets together was a hoot.
After he and Mick realized they were both gay, well…
The things they did in the car and on duty were, let’s just say, against regulation.
Jeff heard Mickey moving the knob on the bathroom door and turned to watch him emerge.
They’d married in secret. Secret to the department, not to their friends, because then they could remain in the same patrol car. Married couples were forbidden to work together, which never made sense to him. After all, weren’t you apt to work harder to protect your lover than just a plutonic partner?
Once Mickey tested for detective, and Jeff managed to climb the ranks to lieutenant, then they came out… out of the closet and about their marriage. If you asked him, he didn’t think it was a surprise to the men that worked closely with them.
His husband of nearly twenty years looked fabulous. The two of them ran on the beach daily, and had a gym in the home with weights and other equipment. The gym had already been set up when they moved here.
He and Mickey had bought the home from two close friends, a lawyer, Jack Larsen, and a talent agent, his husband, Adam Lewis.
After that pair moved to Paradise, California, he and Mickey got a screaming deal from them. They took over payments for the home, and they were low. Jack and Adam bought the house during a downturn in the market.
Otherwise, on his and Mickey’s salaries, they’d never be able to afford it.
Mickey paused, reaching into the bathroom to shut off the light.
His husband was gorgeous. Was it any wonder they couldn’t keep their hands off each other while in uniform?
Mickey gave him a sexy smile as he approached their bed.
Jeff undressed, staring into his husband’s blue eyes.
Mickey relaxed on the bed, hands behind his head, giving him a smirk, because he knew. Knew how hot their sex was.
And… they tended to play with other couples. Friends they’d known for years.
Oh, yes. Life was good.
